Google Home: The Smart Home Speaker We've Been Waiting For

Just when you think Google Home reached its maximum potential, the search engine giant puts on a dazzling display of strength that makes everyone do a double-take. In the months following CES 2017, Google has turned it up to 11, unleashing a barrage of updates that, all told, give Google Home a pretty sweet advantage over the competition.

Not that Google is exactly what you’d call a dark horse. In fact, we liked Google Home from the get-go –  so much so that we’ve decided to offer a home service of our own. But more on that in a moment.

Puls and Google Home

Just to catch you up, Google Home is an entertainment system, personal assistant, and smart home control all rolled into one. It connects to your wifi and can stream music, answer questions, or turn up the air conditioning, all at your voice command.

Puls fans can order Google Home technicians just as they would normally order a Saver to fix their phone. The technicians arrive at your door and provide a free in-home demo, with the option for on-the-spot instant installation.

Google Home technicians can walk you through the vast capabilities of the system, as well as help you set your options. The expertise comes in handy because Google Home is so versatile, it’s easy to miss some of its capabilities.

The power of Google Home

For example, from an entertainment perspective, this smart home assistant is, at its core, both a speaker and a microphone – and it gets this fundamental job done with aplomb. Whether you’re listening to tunes or Google Home’s sage advice on weather-appropriate attire for the day, it sounds good.

And if you’re looking for a bit more power, it’s compatible with any speaker connected to the Chromecast streamer, or any Google Cast enabled speaker. But Google Home’s entertainment skills run much deeper than that. It can control your television, tell you a joke, even play games. And it happens to have a penchant for witty banter.

The microphone is fairly sensitive and always ready for action, and you won’t have to raise your voice to get its attention, even from across the room. Simply issue the “OK Google” command, and Home springs into action.

Ask any question, Google Home will answer.

Search engine results are remarkably intuitive, and can follow a conversational pattern, so you don’t have to repeat yourself. Ask it about Picasso, and follow-up questions about the painter can simply say “he.” You might even forget you’re talking to a robot – but don’t worry, if you confide your deepest secrets, Google Home won’t judge you.

Speaking of secrets, no need to worry that the assistant will spill yours. One super cool feature is that Google Home is capable of voice recognition for up to six different users, and can customize responses for each one. It can let you know what’s up on your Google Calendar, give you traffic updates, and provide you will all manner of local offerings such as stores, restaurants, or libraries, if you don’t want it to just read you a story.

Finally, there’s the home automation capability. This bit can get complex – Google Home’s capabilities are pretty vast. It’s compatible with individual smart home appliances and hubs, and can turn on or off lights, change your thermostat, or activate a home security system with a voice command. Home is compatible with Nest, Honeywell, Smart Things, Wink, and a bevvy of additional smart home systems.

In review

All in all, this smart home assistant can act as a personal butler for almost every facet of your home, though it won’t bake delicious chocolate chip cookies – yet. And if you’re not in the mood for setup, no need to fumble around with all the different options.

Our Puls expert technicians will optimize your experience for you, so you don’t have to go through the hassle. Click here to schedule a free demo today!
